First Aid

Mines Rescue is fully approved by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to deliver and certificate ‘First Aid at Work’ training courses.
We train and certificate first aiders who will meet the requirements of the First Aid at Work Regulations.
You should have a first aider available at all times in the workplace.
Course Details
Appointed Person First Aid
1 day course – HSE recognised. This is the minimum level of First Aid training for the work place. Appropriate for low-risk environments or for those acting in the absence of a fully qualified first aider. Theoretical and practical sessions are included within the course structure.

Emergency First Aid
This 4 hour programme provides the opportunity to learn key life-saving skills and gain an awareness of treatment for shock and significant blood loss. This is a very ‘hands on’ course and entails minimal coverage of related clinical theories.

First Aid at Work (initial course)
This course is aimed at employees who have not previously had any training in First Aid. The course is HSE approved, covers all aspects of First Aid and complies fully with the requirements of the First Aid Regulations 1981. The syllabus is designed to include both theoretical and practical sessions delivered over a 4 day period. Successful delegates will be certificated for 3 years.

First Aid at Work (refresher)
This course is aimed at employees who have not previously had any training in First Aid. The course is HSE approved, covers all aspects of First Aid and complies fully with the requirements of the First Aid Regulations 1981. The syllabus is designed to include both theoretical and practical sessions delivered over a 4 day period. Successful delegates will be certificated for 3 years.

First Aid - Supplementary

Mines Rescue Service is able to provide additional courses to fully qualified first aiders.
Each course is designed to provide delegates with specialised knowledge of their chosen supplementary first aid requirement. Each successful delegate will be fully certificated.
Course Details
Analgesic Administration
Training in the use of self administered analgesic (pain relieving) gas. The course is delivered over 2 hours and covers administering techniques, precautions, operation and storage.

Automatic External Defibrilation (AED)
The half day course covers Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), AED administration techniques and AED Safety Legislation.

Oxygen Therapy
Oxygen administration is of benefit in many cases where First Aid is rendered and is used by emergency services globally. The delegates are taught on this half day course, how to use and operate the equipment as well as the associated precautions.

Paediatric First Aid
The 12 contact hour course is designed to give instruction in the procedures to be followed in the event of babies/children beoming ill or injured whilst under the supervision of childcare providers.
