Confined Space

Mines Rescue Service offers confined space training courses to comply with current regulations and requirements of the National Occupational Standard. These deal with low, medium and high risk confined spaces across a wide range of industries.
All certificates issued have a 3 year life. Refresher courses are available.
Specialist courses are also available in the environmental monitoring, risk assessment and method statement production.
Course Details
Emergency Rescue and Recovery of Casualties from a Confined Space (City & Guilds 6150-05 Level 3)
2 day course - aimed at persons who have been trained to work in high risk confined spaces, and who may form part of a team of rescue workers who may need to enter and assist persons to exit the confined space in the event of an emergency.

High Risk Confined Spaces (City & Guilds 6150-03 Level 2)
3 day course - aimed at persons who may be involved in confined spaces which involve difficult entry/exit, wearing of self-contained open circuit breathing apparatus and using specialist detection and resuscitation equipment when work is being carried out within the confined space.

Low Risk Confined Spaces (City & Guilds 6150-01 Level 2)
1 day course - aimed at lone workers working in an environment with low risk entry with adequate natural or mechanical ventilation, where access appears simple and unobstructed and there is no likely risk of flooding (for example meter pits, valve chambers, stairwells).

Managing Confined Spaces
Aimed at those persons responsible for managing entries into confined spaces.

Medium Risk Confined Spaces (City & Guilds 6150-02 Level 2)
2 day course - for persons working in confined space environments where there is a medium risk that a specified hazard may be present. It will require the use of escape breathing apparatus and monitoring equipment.

Medium Risk Confined Spaces (Refresher) (City & Guilds 6150-02 Level 2)
1 day course - undertaken by those already having completed the initial course within 3 years to renew certification and competence.

Overseeing Work in High Risk Confined Spaces (City & Guilds 6150-04 Level 4)
2 day course with prior knowledge and experience of breathing apparatus, gas detection and confined spaces. Aim is to assess learners in a high risk environment overseeing a work team preparing to work safely and entering and exiting the confined space safely. Also to assess learners monitoring procedures and dealing with emergencies.

Top Man for Medium Risk Confined Spaces (City & Guilds 6150-06)
2 day course - for persons who act as Top Man (non-entry) for those working in medium risk confined space environments where there is a medium risk that a specified hazard may be present.
