The Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and subsequent Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 make provision for information, instruction, supervision and training of all employees.
In an endeavour to support employers to discharge their duties diligently, Mines Rescue provides a series of courses that deal with a full range of Health and Safety related activities.

Abrasive Wheels Safety and Maintenance
The course will give employees an understanding of the schedule of training laid down in the Abrasive Wheels Regs, and also give practical guidance in the use of Abrasive Wheels.

Lifting and Slinging
Introduces delegates to the safe methods and applications when lifting various loads. Also for identifying and selection of appropriate type of lifting tackle with procedures for inspection of the equipment, and correct storage of equipment.

NEBOSH Construction Certificate
The NEBOSH Construction Certificate is a qualification both for those with construction management responsibilities and for those who are required to provide routine, day-to-day advice on health, safety and welfare in construction work. The programme of study broadly mirrors that of the National General Certificate. However, due to the specific nature of the award, the opportunity arises to cover key construction issues in rather more technical detail than would be appropriate for a general health and safety award.

NEBOSH Diploma
The NEBOSH National Diploma is a professional qualification that satisfies the academic requirements for corporate membership of the recognised professional body in the field, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). Its syllabus offers those seeking to demonstrate competence in the subject (for instance, by means of a National or Scottish Vocational Qualification) the opportunity to cover the domain knowledge required through an appropriately structured programme of learning. NEBOSH is also committed to the continued development of specialist awards and to working closely with the university sector in gaining acceptance of the NEBOSH awards as prior learning for parts of MSc programmes.

Top Man
The top man acts as a sentry at the access point to a confined space. He controls and records persons entering and leaving the confined space. Maintains contact with persons in the confined space and initiate rescue if required.
