Enclosed Space Training

Mines Rescue Marine offers a number of training courses dealing with entry into and awareness of Enclosed Space. Each course can be tailored to a customer’s specific requirements, depending on the type of Enclosed Space training required. The courses can be offered in-house or on-site (provided it is safe to utilise).

Management Seminar

Senior Management Seminar

Whilst training in enclosed space operations is essential for those undertaking and supervising such operations, there is a need for Senior Management to have an understanding of the problems those operations incur. This one day seminar for Senior Management in the Marine Industry is designed for candidates to gain an appreciation of the problems involved in Enclosed Space management, the associated rescue techniques and the choice and use of necessary rescue equipment. It translates a proven seminar system from Shore Industry to Marine Industry and provides an opportunity for Senior  Management to discuss the overall problem with experts in this subject. To assist with the flow of the seminar, delegates are invited to a reception the evening prior to the seminar, to meet the training management staff. This seminar is limited to a maximum of ten people to ensure personalised attention to each delegate.

Management Training Courses

Enclosed Space Management

All enclosed spaces, and operations occurring within them, need to be managed. This two day in-house only course is run at one of our training centres. It is designed for Senior Shore/Ship/Platform Management and Shipyard and Port  Management concerned with the management of Enclosed Space entry. It is designed to give a total appreciation of Enclosed Spaces and the associated problems. It covers the training and practical requirements, documentation, the equipment and rescue techniques in a combined classroom and practical instruction, with in-house discussion of the related problems.

All Enclosed Spaces on ships and platforms has to be managed. It is essential that there is an overall management plan for these areas and procedures for operations taking place within them. This requires the involvement of the ship or platform management in the formulation of these plans and a method of managing their implementation.

The two day Enclosed Space Management Course run at one of our training centres is specifically designed for this purpose.

Emergency Planning

Emergencies occur when they are least expected. This is a one day course on the necessary management skills required to implement emergency systems and procedures in the event of an emergency situation arising.

This course is offered either in-house or on-board ships or platforms.

Emergency Arrangements and Response

How emergencies are responded to is critical to a successful resolution. This is a one day course on the management of emergency situations in a maritime environment. This course can be tailored to meet specific requirements with a variety of emergency situations such as chemical spills, gas leaks and fires.

This course is offered either in-house or on-board ships or platforms.

Training Courses

Safe Entry into Enclosed Space

The basis to safety in enclosed spaces is the knowledge of safe entry procedures. This two day course covers entering and working safely within an Enclosed Space, utilising risk assessments, action plans and permits to work. In addition, it includes monitoring entry equipment, emergency escape breathing devices (EEBDs), personal protective equipment (PPE) and dealing with an emergency situation. This course can be divided into two parts for on-board training if required.

Competence assessment can be undertaken at an accredited centre which would result in City and Guilds Certification.

High Risk Spaces

These types of spaces under normal situations should never be entered. We do, however, recognise that on rare occasions situations may develop which require such spaces to be entered. For this reason, this intensive three day course has been developed and is held at one of our training centres. It covers entering and working safely within high risk Enclosed Spaces whilst wearing breathing apparatus. The course incorporates risk assessments, action plans, permits-to-work, monitoring/entry equipment, EEBDs, PPE and dealing with an emergency situation. Additionally, it includes using specialist detection and resuscitation equipment.

Competence assessment can be undertaken at an accredited centre which would result in City and Guilds Certification.

Awareness Demonstration

On-Site Demonstration

Mines Rescue Marine recognises the urgent pressures of work on many ships which restricts the time available for crews to undertake certain courses. To assist with this, an on-site demonstration has been designed where a Mines Rescue Marine team visit the ship and, over the course of three hours, provide a demonstration of pre-entry, entry and rescue procedures with a real time, interactive question and answer session. Whilst this will not provide the in-depth training in Enclosed Space procedures, it will heighten crew awareness of the dangers and problems involved and show how a safe rescue should be effected, giving the officers and crew the opportunity to discuss the overall problem with our experts.
